Have you been creating artworks? I have received some lovely images so far! Thank you for sharing your works and I hope to receive more! But for now, I will be sharing some more artistic ideas and ways to be creative, which is to use recycled materials and found objects.

As the weather is getting warmer, I was able to make some sketches in the park. A great way to practice your drawing skills is to keep a sketchbook and a pen or pencil whenever you go. When you have an idea or see something that you want to draw or sketch, your sketchbook is right there when you need it.

Do you have children who love to have fun? You can make your own sketchbook and it is of great fun designing the book cover together. I make my sketchbooks out of unwanted paper and magazine or newspaper cut-outs. It may sound like a complicated process, but there is a simple way.

Thanks to Katy Wateva, who made a video showing you how to make a simple sketchbook with easy steps for you to follow. With this video, you can be creative in an easy way. Katy is a talented, prolific illustrator; she always has a sketchbook with her and gets her inspiration from the world and surroundings. You can be inspired as well!

There are many ways to be artistic, and they don’t have to be hard, like this simple book-making. I always say to be sustainable whilst making art! I have put together some photographs showing some simple designs.

For younger children

They will like making and creating things out of different materials. Mums and dads can help them with things like cutting out and putting things together. Try collage techniques using cut-outs from magazines, food packaging, wrapping paper; or you can look around in the house for materials that can be used.

The older ones

The older ones will have more ideas and might be more adventurous to explore with materials and will be able to combine it with their own drawing. They will enjoy adding colours and creating things with different materials. I have helped out in a workshop and worked with teenagers as an artist in residence. They have different ideas of making their own books that they all came up with different themes.

Book-making is just an excellent way to interact with children. It is interesting to see the artwork created out of unwanted materials. Having completed the book is just the beginning. Now it’s time for the exciting part; start creating! It can be a picture book, a journal, anything you wish for it to be.
